With a nasty W/SW wind going West wasn’t an option so we decided to fish the east side with Steve and his crew. We had steady action from the start. We ended up filling the box with their 4 man limit of 12 Steelhead going 12/17, also boxing a bonus Lake Trout, with enough time to make it to the dock for lunch. Despite the wind it was a great day of Steelhead fishing.

Team Outcast wins 1st Place in the E.P.S.F.A. Fall Trout ChallengeTeam Outcast (Capt. Jason, Capt. Ron, Chris and Brian) fished the Erie PA Sportfishing Association – Fall Trout Challenge. We left the dock at 6:am sharp heading west in the darkness to fish the spots that were productive earlier in the week. We rounded the point only to get hit by the building chop coming from the W/NW. With the weather report indicating that things were only going to get worse we made a team decision to go to plan B waters sheltered by Presque Isle. As the lines went in at the 7:am start it was an immediate double. The fishing was ferocious and we managed to box the weigh in minimum of 6 by 8:30 and it was upgrade mode from there. It was a steady bite until we headed for weigh-ins at 2:30. We finished the day going 23 for 31 on Steelhead, with our 6 biggest Steelhead tipping the scales at 37#s 9 oz, landing us in the top spot.
We headed west with Megan and Keith. A big blow from the previous day had the inside waters muddy. After a slow start we found some cleaner water and hungry fish. We managed to go 10 for 12 on Steelhead boxing their 6 fish limit and sending the others back for another day.
I headed to the western tribs with Eric, Dan and Don. All the lines went in with no takers. After the slow start we dialed in the program, found some productive water and it was game on. With a steady bite we finished the day going 14 for 25 on Steelhead with a bonus Brown trout. The crew opted for catch and release and all the fish went back in to fight another day.
I headed west to fish the western tribs with Ray, Troy and Alonzo. We set up and after a slow start we managed steady bites. We finished the day going 7 for 19 on Steelhead and boating 2 bonus football sized Smallmouth Bass. We had a tough day keeping the fish on the hook.
I headed out on a calm lake with Jim, Laura, Holden and Graham. The bite was slow and we managed a slow pick to end the day going 11/14 on Walleye and 0/1 on Steelhead.
I left the dock and headed north with Tom, Amy, Thomas and Nick. We set lines to find the bite to be a slow pick. We called it a day going 10/18 on Walleye, 0/2 on Steelhead and adding a bonus Lake Trout to the box.
I fished the day with Becky and Vic. We headed North and found a steady morning bite which by mid-morning slowed to a grind. We managed to end the day going 12/15 for Walleye boxing their two man limit and adding 4 bonus Steelhead to the box.
I left the dock and headed NW with Tony, Kaleb, Madison and Gabby. We managed to get all of the lines in the water before the screen lit up and it was all hands on deck. With fast action we managed to make one turn going 14/14 on Walleyes and 0/1 Steelhead; the washing machine like chop was a little too much for the crew and we called it day early as the Lake Erie Flu set in. The crew did a great job on the rods batting a perfect score on the walleye in the rough sea conditions.
We left the dock and headed NW with Darrin, Cory and Hunter. We set lines and found a ferocious Walleye and Steelhead bite. We managed end the day going 18/22 boxing their 3 man limit of Walleye and going 6/7 on Steelhead. Cory took honors for boxing the biggest Walleye of the day, which tipped the scales at 11#s. The crew brought along their favorite lures, PCOLA’S Niti-1s, which are manufactured near their hometown and a well guarded trout killing secret weapon. We sent one out on an inside wire diver which was immediately crushed by a hungry Steelhead and sent the second down on the rigger which boxed Walleye #18 ending the day.
